Overview

Falls Psychology Services provides independent psychological evaluations for individuals pursuing Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and for attorneys representing disability claimants.

These evaluations are conducted as structured clinical assessments and are distinct from therapeutic services. The purpose of the evaluation is to clarify diagnosis, assess severity, and analyze work-related functional capacity in accordance with Social Security Administration (SSA) criteria.

Disability determinations are made by the SSA. The role of the evaluating psychologist is to provide an objective clinical opinion supported by medical evidence and professional judgment.

Scope of Evaluation

A comprehensive SSDI psychological evaluation typically includes:

  • Structured clinical interview
  • Review of relevant medical and mental health records
  • Diagnostic clarification using DSM criteria
  • Longitudinal symptom analysis
  • Functional capacity assessment
  • Written report addressing work-related psychological limitations

Evaluations address functional domains commonly considered by SSA, including:

  • Understanding and memory
  • Sustained concentration and persistence
  • Social interaction
  • Adaptation and stress tolerance
  • Attendance and reliability

When appropriate, the report may include analysis of sustained work capacity and the consistency of impairment over time.

Alignment with SSA Standards

SSDI determinations are based on whether an individual is capable of engaging in substantial gainful activity (SGA). The presence of a diagnosis alone does not establish disability under SSA criteria.

Evaluations focus on:

  • Functional impact of symptoms
  • Consistency with documented treatment history
  • Degree of limitation within relevant domains
  • Clinical support for work-related restrictions

Opinions are formulated based on available evidence and clinical findings. No outcomes are guaranteed.

Attorney-Referred Evaluations

Attorney referrals are welcome.

For legal representatives, reports are prepared with attention to:

  • Evidentiary clarity
  • Structured functional analysis
  • Longitudinal consistency
  • Clear articulation of clinical rationale

Record review-only services and rebuttal analyses of DDS findings are available when clinically appropriate.

Important Distinctions for Veterans

A VA disability rating, including a 100% rating, does not automatically qualify an individual for SSDI.

The Department of Veterans Affairs assigns ratings based on service connection and degree of impairment.

The Social Security Administration evaluates whether an individual can sustain substantial gainful employment, regardless of service connection.

An SSDI evaluation focuses specifically on work-related functional capacity under SSA standards.

Professional Boundaries

Independent SSDI evaluations do not include:

  • Legal representation
  • Guaranteed approval
  • Coaching on testimony
  • Advocacy-based reports
  • Crisis mental health services

These services are conducted as objective clinical assessments in accordance with professional ethical standards.
